A little competition can be really motivating when it comes to doing something that you aren’t really excited about. Challenge your spouse or a friend to lose 10 pounds, drink more water, eat healthy for a week, a step competition using your favorite activity tracker (here’s mine!), or number of workouts in a week.
Competition is fun! It gets you motivated and holds you accountable to your goals. You’re guaranteed to get moving when you have a partner so even if you lose the competition you will still be much better off before you started.
This one is kind of obvious, I guess. Personally I can lose 2 – 3 pounds in 3 days if I give up drinking Cokes! There are so many benefits to drinking water like better skin, hair, and even reduced headaches. Not to mention it can make you feel fuller before eating a meal.
Keeping track of your water intake is a great way to remember to drink more water. You could also make it a habit to drink a glass of water before every meal and snack. That should get you to at least 5 glasses of water a day. Here is a water tracker that you can keep track right on your bottle or you could download this water tracker for FREE!
I know it’s kinda vain, but I love getting new workout clothes!
You don’t have to spend a ton of money on workout gear. You can easily purchase a cute workout shirt from Walmart for $3 – $10 and some fun leggings for about $12. I know when I have something cute and comfy to wear I’m excited to put the clothes on and I’m much more likely to get a workout in!
Nothing gets me in the mood to workout better than a good song. It takes my mind off of the activity I’m doing and pumps me up to get through a workout that I’m dreading. Here’s my weight loss motivation mix!
Protein is really important to help with weight loss. You have to eat the right protein like chicken, fish, low fat ground beef or turkey, and eggs/egg whites to help with weight loss. I like to have protein at every meal and snack. For snacks I will add peanut butter, almonds, greek yogurt, low-fat cheese stick, or a protein shake.
This protein shake is my absolute favorite. My husband did the research and found that the extreme milk chocolate flavor was the highest rated! (Duh?! Right!) I like to mix in one scoop of PB2, a powdered peanut butter to make it taste like a Reese’s Cup.
Do you love salty snacks? Try a handful of almonds instead of a bag of chips. Do you need something sweet? I make this pumpkin protein bread in muffin tins and add dark chocolate chips! It’s the perfect sweet snack with a little protein.

Create a meal plan and cook your meals in advance. Sometimes I will double the recipe from dinner so that we can have it for lunch the next day or another dinner later in the week. It’s a great way to save time and money.
Not only that, but your also way more prepared for busy nights and you can skip the drive through to eat something healthy at home.
Ok…I know everyone is going to tell you to workout at home, but I never actually DO the workouts. And when I sit in front of the TV…um I usually fall asleep! Ha! #momlife
When I do manage to force myself to workout at home, I usually have 2 little people climbing all over me which ends up being play time and not workout time.
So here I am giving you permission to go JOIN that gym!
We are members of our local YMCA which I absolutely LOVE! They have childcare that we can use for up to 2 hours per day, a swimming pool (inside and outside for summer time), classes, and more.
The best part is when my husband lost his job we were able to apply for a scholarship that gave us a reduced membership fee. The YMCA absolutely supports their community. When we are back on our feet we will definitely give back to the Y.
Check out your local resources and ask if there are any scholarships to join a community fitness facility or YMCA. It’s totally worth it!
This is my secret weapon…Essential Amino Energy. This is a caffeine supplement with protein (amino acid) for muscle recovery and energy and focus.
Let me be honest here, I drink this stuff whether I’m working out or just need to clean the house up! I don’t like coffee, so when I need caffeine I usually drink a Coke or Sweet Tea which is obviously full of sugar.
EAE is a powder that you mix with cold water. 2 scoops of powder has twice the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. I usually only take 1 – 1.5 scoops and it gives me just enough energy to get past that lazy/sleepy feeling before I work out. This is the only caffeine I have all day!
After my second baby I joined Dietbet and lost 6 pounds in 4 weeks and I earned $35.60 from the bet! Basically you choose a group to join and bet on yourself to lose weight in the specified amount of time. My initial bet was $10 and I made $35.60 not a bad return! But you have to stick to your goal (which is healthy and achievable). If you don’t meet your goal you lose your money and of course you don’t win money either. Some people have earned more than $1000 by continuing to play!
Here are more ways to get paid to lose weight!
Have you ever noticed that whatever you are looking at on social media kind of stays with you the rest of the day?
I love following people who have fitness accounts on Instagram. They usually show the kinds of food they eat for meals and snacks, workouts that they are doing, and other healthy tips. Mostly it just keeps my mind focused on fitness and eating healthy. I may never do all the workouts…and I’m not trying to be as fit as my favorite “Fit”stagramers are…BUT I figure if I could look half as good as they do I would be totally happy!
Don’t try to do everything all at once! Choose one area of health and fitness to focus on. Maybe you can commit to drinking water everyday this week. Next week you can work on eating more protein and drinking more water. Slow, small changes will help you to create a healthy lifestyle instead of quick fix diet that you definitely won’t stick to.
