30 Real Stay at Home Mom Jobs – Earn $1000 or More!

mom works from home

Do you struggle with being present for your kids and wanting to make money at home?

If you’re anything like me, then you and your family could use some extra income long before the kids are off to school. You’re probably thinking there has to be a way to make money from home with stay at home jobs online for moms, that I can do now.

At the end of my maternity leave, I had to give a date when I would return to work or choose to take another year of maternity leave. I was overwhelmed with stress just thinking about going back to work and leaving my barely one year old son at home. I knew that working a job that I wasn’t passionate about would leave me exhausted and burnt out by the time I made it back to daycare to pick up my baby.

I dreamed of creating a life that I loved…around work and family. Now I work 10 – 12 hours per week at home while raising my 3 boys. You can see how I do it with this work at home mom schedule!

After my many failed attempts at making money online, I realized that what I needed before jumping into another work from home job was clarity and a vision about the type of work from home job that would work best for a stay at home mom.

Reasons for Work from Home Mom Jobs

Everybody has their reason WHY they want to work from home, but sometimes it’s nice to know that other moms are thinking the same thing. Recently I asked in a mom group, why they had decided to start work from home mom jobs. I got several answers like this…

  • spend time with my family
  • do something that I love
  • freedom to travel with my husband and kids
  • choose where I want to live, not based off of a job location
  • create financial freedom
  • pay off debt
  • to homeschool my kids
  • find purpose outside of being a mom

None of these responses are wrong! Every mom has a reason to pursue earning money and it’s absolutely ok to want to find something that you can do outside of being a mom.

Can stay at home moms really make money?

Absolutely! You can make money with work at home mom jobs. But let’s be clear, you won’t make money overnight. However, you can make money with hard work and perseverance, just like any other job you would pursue offline.

If someone tells you that you can make $1000 dollars a day just by clicking a few things on your phone…run away fast!

Anything that sounds too good to be true is probably a scam.

I remember when I started working online for Lionbridge as a search engine evaluator, I had to give my information so that I could get paid…it was scary! Thankfully my research on the company was solid and after my first month of work I was paid on time and in full.

I earned about $13 per hour for evaluating searches for social media sites and search engines.

The thing is you have to do work to get paid. You may decide to do a job that pays a little to do simple tasks or you may choose to develop your skills and start your own business. The possibilities for working online from home are endless and the earning potential depends on your skills, desire to continue learning, and growing!

With today’s technology, there are some amazing jobs for stay at home moms. And I mean legit jobs that you can work from home, not scams! This post has the most common types of work at home jobs that are great for moms (or anyone else) who want to work from home.

Finding a legit stay at home jobs can feel kind of tricky when you don’t know what you are looking for. That why we put together this list of legit stay at home mom jobs. We hope this guide helps you find a job that fits you and your family!

There are 4 basic types of online jobs that you can do from home. Your needs for income, time commitment, and flexibility will determine the best fit for you.

Remote Online Careers

Businesses have been increasing the number of remote work from home jobs for the past few years. People love the option of being able to work from home, ditch the commute, and have less distractions. Full time positions can expect to earn a full time salary with companies that hire remote positions including benefits, health insurance, and office equipment. There are also part-time job opportunities along with flex opportunities that would allow you to work flexible hours or commute to work a few days per week and work at home other days.

These type of jobs range from customer service, education, information technology, marketing, and more.

The best place I have found to research remote online careers is through FlexJobs. They offer a job search platform that vets every job opportunity placed on their site to guarantee no scams. Online Entrepreneur

Have you ever thought about starting a business? A brick and mortar business (meaning opening an actual store in a real building) can cost a lot of money. You would need a business loan, purchase products to stock the store, and take on risk if your products don’t sell. Research suggests that most brick and mortar stores don’t actually make a profit for 5 years! Wow!

Opening an online business can be a great way to make money with minimal to no investment required! If you have a computer, smartphone, and wifi you can start a business making money from the comfort of your own home being your own boss.

The good thing about becoming an online entrepreneur is that you will have high flexibility, so you can decide when and where you work. The struggle is that income can be low at first with a big time commitment if you expect to grow quickly.

Of course, all of this depends on how much knowledge you have about marketing, the demand for your business, and if you decide to invest in online marketing.

Independent Contract Positions in the Gig Economy

Ok, that’s a lot of words. But in case you didn’t know, we are in what’s being called the “gig economy” which basically means that companies are hiring independent contract positions to do jobs. An independent contract position means that you are not an employee, so you don’t receive benefits of being an employee. One big difference is that you are required to take out your own taxes, so don’t forget to calculate for that!

A “gig” can be anything from walking dogs, delivering food, driving people places, renting out space, renting out cars…just about anything you can think of that other people might need you to do! There are companies that hire for gig positions and there are platforms you can join to offer gig services.

An independent contract position is highly flexible with potential to earn a decent amount of money depending on the amount of time you commit to working.

When you need maximum flexibility without a major time commitment, then jobs that earn a few hundred dollars a month of extra income could be the perfect fit for you. These type of jobs usually include earning extra money with surveys, apps that make money on your smartphone, and other get paid to tasks.

Most of these jobs are things that you can do while bingeing Netflix or waiting for your kids at practice. These extra money makers are best if you save them up over time. I use these to help us pay for Christmas and gifts!

Popular Stay at Home Jobs for Moms

  Blogging

1. Blogging to Make Money as a Stay at Home Mom

Blogging is my personal favorite way to make money from home. It’s a job that is project based, flexible, and the earning potential is unlimited.

There are 3 main ways that you can make money as a blogger.

  • Affiliate Marketing: You can make money when you share links to products or services that you recommend to your audience. There is no cost to your audience if they purchase through your link, and you are rewarded either a set amount or a percentage of the purchase.
  • Advertising: If you look around on your favorite sites (including this one!) you’ll notice advertisements throughout a post, on the side of a page, and sometimes at the bottom of the page. Advertising companies pay money to get in front of your audience. They pay even more if you have high quality traffic to your website.
  • Selling Products: Make money with your blog by selling products that your audience needs to solve their problems. Digital products like printables, planners, ebooks, stock photos, etc are easy to sell products that don’t require an investment.

Actually setting up a website on WordPress is pretty easy. You can have your blog up and running in about 15 mintues!

But building a business around a blog can take months before you are earning money. Up front you are putting in hard work without much to show for it. There is nothing like that first $1 you make online! It’s encouraging and motivating to know that you’re onto something and you really can make money with a blog.

My best advice for anyone wanting to start a blog to make money is to begin by solving people’s problems. Everyone has problems that they need help solving. It could be anything from how to apply makeup, how to fix hair, how to keep your kids busy with educational activities, best camping supplies, how to create a bullet journal, DIY and crafts, and anything in between.

Choose to write about something that you love and then find a way to solve the problems that surround that thing…whatever *it* is!

Selling Things Online

Selling things online is a very flexible way to make money. A few things to know about selling online…

You don’t need to have money to invest in order to start selling online. The experts like Melissa of Flea Market Flipper and Jessica of Amazon Boot Camp, both say you can start selling online by looking through your closets to find things to try and sell.

Start investing money into your business. Once you start selling a few items you can take the money you have earned to invest in buying more products to sell online.

Learn as much as you can! There is always new information to learn, whether you are a seasoned online seller or a newbie. Take advantage of courses that teach you how to make money with your side hustle.

Your earning potential is limitless when you sell online. Once you learn how to sell things online you have the potential to earn as much as you want to. That doesn’t mean it will be easy or you will make money over night, but with hard work and effort you decide how much you want to earn!

7. Selling on Ebay

Sell used items you find from shopping flea markets and thrift stores. Melissa of the Flea Market Flipper shares her tip for selling used items online. “Start with something you are familiar with. I liked to sell baby gear and baby clothes because I already knew the price points and how much something would go for.”

You can also sell items in Facebook groups, craigslist, and OfferUp just to name a few.

8. Selling on Amazon

Retail Arbitrage is an easy way to start selling items on the world’s largest marketplace, Amazon. What is retail arbitrage? Basically scouring the shelves of your local stores for items that have gone on sale and then putting them on Amazon for a profit.

The great thing about selling on Amazon is that everyone is already familiar with the platform and it’s the place where everyone goes when they think to purchase online (meaning lots of eyeballs on your products!).

Jessica and her family have been making a full time income selling on Amazon and now they help other people start their own business. Check out her amazing FREE resource to get you started!

9. Etsy Shop Owner

Etsy is one of the fastest growing online platforms with their handmade marketplace. There are so many options for selling through Etsy.
